West Lafayette hosts Dec. 7 online meeting

The City of West Lafayette invites everyone living or working in the city to comment online at any time on its strategic plan and to participate in three moderated online discussions. Those interested in participating should go to the website, http://westlafayetteplan.com.

The first online meeting is set for 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 7. It will be moderated by Tripp Muldrow, principal in Arnett Muldrow & Associates, the South Carolina-based urban planning firm which is facilitating the update.

Discussions will center on five emerging themes: neighborhood vitality; community infrastructure, including roads, trails and parks; commercial district/economic development; institutional development, covering schools, healthcare and community facilities; and community relations.

“Hosting online meetings gives residents an easy, convenient way to make their opinions known and to be part of the process of creating the city we want,” said West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis. “We want input from long-time residents, newcomers and workers regarding business, education and quality of life.”

A steering committee of residents is overseeing the process of updating the strategic plan. Those serving are: Steve Belter, Sana Booker, Tom Gall, Abe Honegger, David Kucik, Lynn Layden, Todd Leuck, Mia Lewis, Shelley Lowenberg-DeBoer, Larry Oates, Art Remnet, Tom Robinson, Vinod Sagi, William Shen, Charlie Shook, Kumares Sinha, Linda Sorenson and Rachel Witt.

Future online meetings will be at 7 p.m., Sunday, December 13, and 10 a.m., Friday, December 18. A public meeting also will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, January 21, at West Lafayette City Hall. The public presentation of the plan is set for Thursday, February 18, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

West Lafayette created its first strategic plan addressing everything from city services to quality of life with citizen input in 1984.
