Allure Dental Named

September Small Business of the Month

Step inside Allure Dental, 821 Twyckenham Blvd. (477-0331, www.allure-dental.com), for a glimpse of the latest dental care and technology and what it means for patients.

One recent day, for example, Christian Mazur, D.D.S., placed a dental implant using three-dimensional technology “that guided my implant exactly where it needed to be.” That same day, he completely restyled a patient’s smile with veneers. “She was so happy, she was crying.”

The dental practice, chosen to be Greater Lafayette Commerce’s September Small Business of the Month, is equipped with up-to-the-minute, technologically advanced equipment.

“We have made the investment,” Mazur says. “It’s the training behind it that makes it so valuable.”

Now known as Allure Dental, the practice was formerly owned by Gary Pfleeger, D.D.S. Trevor Murray, D.D.S. joined him in the business 14 years ago, and Mazur came to the practice when Pfleeger retired.

Its offices have been on Twyckenham since 1996. The 3,000-square-foot office has nine patient rooms. Allure Dental employs 18.

Besides general dentistry for families, Allure offers dental cosmetics; neuromuscular dentistry;  treatments for head, neck and facial pain; complex dental reconstruction; and other treatments.

Mazur: Jeff Grad, Loves Outdoors

Hailing form Gary and Portage, Mazur came to Lafayette as a high school sophomore, where his father, John Mazur, was an assistant football and track coach.

After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1990, the young Mazur earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, came to Purdue for a master’s in biology and went on to study dentistry at IU/Indianapolis, graduating in 2000.

“Then I came straight back to Lafayette,” where he began working as a dentist.

“Lafayette is a really solid town, with a university, good economy and so many things to offer,” Mazur says. “I like that flavor. It just suits me.”

He came to dentistry via a friend’s father. “The rest of my family is very artistic and musically inclined. I have a little bit of that, but I’m not quite what they are,” he says. “I play the guitar, and I wanted to be an architect, until a friend’s father showed me dentistry. I didn’t realize I could use my artistic abilities as a dentist. That’s the part I love, creating the beautiful part.”

When day is done, it’s outdoors for Mazur, a former football and baseball player, who today enjoys fishing, golfing, running, working out and coaching youth baseball.

“I really like working with the kids,” the father of three says. “It’s fun to see what they’re like at the beginning of a season and at the end, to see how they work together as a team.”

Murray: Family, Church Important

Raised in Lynn, Ind., educated at Ball State University and IU/Indianapolis School of Dentistry, Murray came to Lafayette in 1996. “Lafayette is home,” he says. “It’s the perfect place to raise my kids.”

He was drawn to the profession by his childhood dentist. “I had a great dentist as a kid, just phenomenal. And it’s a great profession. You get to help people, have your own business and make your own decisions.”

About a decade or so ago he started learning about cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry. “When I came out of school, I thought I knew it all,” he laughs. “I wanted to be better, so I took several classes in Las Vegas, learned about muscles in the jaw and how they function and can lead into headaches. Once you learn more, you find out how much you don’t know, and you have to learn more and more.”

The advancements Allure Dental offers are rewarding, he says. “We can now make crowns in one day using digital imaging.”

Out of the office, he enjoys golf, running and basketball. “Even though I work a lot, my wife and kids are the most important, no matter what,” he says. “I like spending time with them. It just gets better and better.”

He’s also an avid participant in his church.

Allure Dental sponsors numerous community sports, theatre and music events, and it supports Relay for Life, American Heart Association and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Wabash Valley.
