Public Schools (K-12)
Three public school corporations serve Lafayette-West Lafayette . All public schools are First Class Commissioned by the state of Indiana. The high schools are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. All three corporations operate programs for the developmentally disabled and other special-needs students.

State required academic programs are offered at all levels. The corporation also teaches the educable developmentally disabled in grades 1 through 12 and trainable developmentally disabled ages 6 to 16.

Excellent media resources include a federally licensed educational radio station and closed circuit television studios at Jefferson High School. The facility features a planetarium and a state-of-the-art technology department.

Especially talented students may attend Purdue classes during junior and senior years.
Classes for special-needs students are conducted in cooperation with Lafayette and Tippecanoe school corporations. WLCS also provides homebound tutoring.

Ivy Tech Community College is a public, open access, accredited community college serving Tippecanoe County and the seven contiguous counties.  Ivy Tech offers associate degrees and technical certificates in Health Services, Technology, Business, Public Services, and Liberal Arts.  Many courses are transferable to Purdue University and other public and private colleges and universities.  Ivy Tech also offers customized training for businesses and industry, workforce certification, and lifelong learning classes for adults and children.

The Lafayette Adult Reading Academy teaches basic reading and writing skills to out-of-school youth and adults, GED preparation courses, and English as a second language (ESL). LARA operates nine work site and satellite programs.

Each January, Lafayette School Corp. offers adult non-credit classes at Jefferson High School. Courses typically include accounting, business writing, desktop publishing, computer literacy, math, photography, Spanish, typing, and word-processing. Classes meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. for ten weeks.
